We all strive to be healthy, happy and successful. Some days we feel more accomplished than others and some days we are just (for lack of a better word) stuck. Today I want to share some great advice that was passed on to me that I am truly grateful for. I hope this advice might stick with you, especially on those “stuck” kind of days. Here’s to you for becoming your best self…

Forgive and Heal

Drama happens. Sometimes it is inevitable. You have to decide if you are going to let issues from the past dictate how you feel today or how you will feel or act in the future. Can you let said past problems roll off your shoulders or maybe you need to confront the issue head on. Whatever you decide make sure it sits well with you. Built up anger leads to stress, anxiety and depression which in turn leads to bad health. Is it really worth it? Try to forgive and move on. Could you even possibly thank the situation for happening because maybe somehow now you are a different person because of it. Even if it taught you one thing about yourself you were not aware of before. Maybe you’re proud of how you handled the situation or maybe you found something you could work on to move forward on becoming a better you. Once you forgive you can lay the situation to bed and heal.


I know I talk about this a lot and I know some people think it is not for them. I can promise you that if you get nothing else out of it you will get the feeling of calmness. Calm people are usually more rational and pleasant to be around. They are better at keeping stress levels down and tend to lead a healthier life. Want to try meditating now!? Try 5 minutes a day for one work week (Monday – Friday) to sit in silence and relax. Maybe you’ll miss it Saturday and crave that 5 minutes of peace. Take Care Of Your Body Like Your Life Depends On It…because basically it does

That means eat healthy: greens, beans, fruits and steamed Becoming your best selfvegetables are your essential daily foods for optimal health.

Get some fresh air, take a walk, try some light weights, anything to get you moving and your heart rate up is so important.

Make A Life You Look Forward To Living

Make sure you have someone or something in your life that genuinely makes you happy. Reach out to an old friend and make a plan to catch up. Go on an adventure and see an area near you that you have never explored before. Set a goal so you have something you look forward to obtaining. Reach that goal then make another! Only you can make your life what you want it to be. So go out there and live it. Take risks. If they don’t work out at least you tried instead of always wondering what if.

Offer The World Your Help

Are you really good at something, do you have a special talent, Becoming your best selfare you easy to talk to? Good…go and share it throughout your community. It takes one kind act to make someones day and I can guarantee it will make you feel pretty woderful too.

Believe In Your Gut Feelings

Your gut is usually right. Yeah, that sounded weird but it’s true. If something inside you is telling you “this is not right” or “this is going to help you” go with it. Deep down you know what is best for you.

Do something that scares you or puts you out of your comfort zone at the very least once a week. By doing this it opens up doors to new possibilites that you never realized existed to you before because you were a bit nervous or uncomfortable to try. What to you have to loose? Add a little excitement to your life!

If It Does Not Serve You, Let It Go

Don’t let clutter in your body, mind or home for that matter weigh you down. If you know longer have purpose for something even a feeling…let it go.

Food that boost immunityNow that it is getting cooler outside and the common cold is beginning to spread it is especially important to keep your immune system healthy and ready to fight anything that wants to attack.

Maintaining a healthy immune system means you are helping prevent infections and germs from invading your lymph nodes, cells and organs. A healthy fuctioning immune system also aids in warding off digestive complications, fatigue, allergies, and horrible illnesses such as cancer.

Weather change is not the only issue that can contribute to a weakened immune system. Lack of sleep, emotional stress, the use of too many antibiotics, lack of exercise, overexposure to toxins from the environment as well as a poor diet and hygiene are also contibutors to a weakened immune system.

Luckily, you can help boost your immune system by dedicating yourself to a healthy lifestyle eating habit.

Foods That Boost Your Immune System

  • Probiotic Yogart or Kefir – Eating probiotic yogarts daily helps with the development of white blood cells which help decrease the possibility and/or duration of infections.
  • Tumeric – I love this stuff! I add it to eggs, chicken, potatoes as well as warm water with cinnamon and honey for a comforting, healthy tea. Tumeric aids in the resistance to infections.
  • Garlic – Look here for the very important reasons why garlic should be a staple in your life. Try to eat 2 – 3 raw cloves (either whole or minced on food) a day to receive immunity boosting benefits.
  • Green Tea – Green tea is filled with antioxidants to help fight free-radical damage. Aim to drink 3 cups a day. More reasons here to drink this powerful tea!
  • Ginger – Ginger is good for blood circulation as well as having the ability to break down toxins gathered in the body. Eat it whole, crushed in food or drink it as a tea at least once a day to help boost your immunity.

Balancing Your ChakrasIf there was a way that you could naturally help heal yourself would you give it a try?

There are 7 points on our body where the energy flows. They are located down the center, from the top of the head to the base of the spine. We have the ability to target these “spiritual centers” to help ourselves heal both physically and mentally….they are called our chakras.

It is believed by many that if any of our chakras are blocked it could lead to illness because our energy can not freely flow. This guide will help you determine which, if any, of your chakras are blocked.

The Seven Chakras

  1. Root Chakra (Red) – This is the chakra that makes us feel grounded. It is located at the base of the spine (the tailbone.)
  2. Sacral Chakra (Orange) – This chakra helps us embrace new experiences and people that come into our lives. This chakra is located 2 inches in and below our navel in the lower abdomin.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Yellow) – With this chakra we are given the ability to be in control of our lives with confidence. The location of the Solar Plexus is in the upper abdomin.
  4. Heart Chakra (Green) – This chakra allows us to love. Its location is at the center of the chest, just above the heart.
  5. Throat Chakra (Blue) – The throat chakra gives us the power to communicate. It is located in…yes, you guessed it…the throat.
  6. Third Eye Chakra (Purple) – This gives us the ability to focus and notice “the big picture”. The Third Eye is right between the eyes in the forehead.
  7. Crown Chakra (White) – This is our highes chakra allowing us to be and feel fully, spiritually connected.

  1. Root Chakra – The feeling of being “out of it”, not feeling safe, very tired may even have digestive issues such as constipation
  2. Sacral Chakra – Lack of creative juices flowing, no sexual desire, uncomfortable menstrual cycle
  3. Solar Plexis Chakra – Lack of self confidence and self worth, nausea, low blood sugar levels and upset digestive system
  4. Heart Chakra – You no longer care as much for others, heart issues and may have high blood pressure
  5. Throat Chakra – Have a hard time speaking up for yourself or for what you believe in, sore throat, thyroid issues
  6. Third Eye Chakras – Feeling depresses, headaches, migraines
  7. Crown Chakra – The feeling of being “disconnected”, not able to sleep or sleep too much

What Blocks Our Chakras

You may be asking yourself what blocks our chakras? The most common blockers are stress, poor diet, lack of exercise and negative thoughts. By committing to positive changes in your lifestyle you will have the power to unblock your chakras.

How To Cleanse And Unblock Your Chakras

This is where it gets fun. Be prepared to get to know and trust yourelf even more. You can do this daily or weekly to feel the benefits happening to your body. Lets cleanse and balance our chakras!

First: Find a quiet spot to sit, stand or lay so that you can comfortably meditate. If you would like guidance on how to meditate click here. This meditation should help you feel grounded or “one” with the universe.

Second: Imagine each chakra opening as if it were a flower about to bloom. Stay with that thought until the “flower” is fully bloomed before moving onto the next chakra. (AssociateBalancing your chakras each chakra with its color.) Start with the Root Chakra and work your way up. This may take about 5 minutes or so. Be patient. The more you practice, the easier it will be to imagine.

Third: Now that all of your “flowers” are bloomed you must now imagine a stream of white light powerfully entering your body from the Root Chakra one by one up to the Crown Chakra. Envision the 7 streams of white light through your body. Let this light flow for as long as you feel it should. Until all of your chakras feel unblocked.

Fourth: Now you have to turn off the white lights. One at a time turn off the flow from the Crown Chakra down the the Root Chakra. Imagine the white lights shutting off one by one until you are “grounded” again.

Fifth: It is time to partially close all 7 chakras, not completely close because we don’t want to shut off our chakras but we can’t leave them 100% open either. Keeping them open can run the risk of running out of energy and people abusing your generosity.

To do this imagine that you are closing a door (just don’t shut it). Close it until you feel comfortable with how much open space is left. Do this for each chakra starting at the Crown Chakra and work your way down. This will of course be different for everyone. After doing this so often you will know where you feel comfortable with the ajar door.

Sixth and Final Step: Get rid of the negative energy from your chakras by visualizing a gust of wind taking all of the negative junk far away from you leaving you with a cleared, peaceful and energized state of being.

Legs Up The Wall

Legs Up The WallI have suffered from stress induced anxiety for years. Between health concerns and the unexpected issues that arise can be overwhelming at times and open that door to stressville city. Who hasn’t experienced stress? Please give me their name, I would love to know their secret.

Anyways, I turned to yoga and was amazed how wonderful and calm I felt walking out of class and for the rest of the day. I now teach yoga to children to help them learn ways to relax and find calmness in their world.

I have to say, my anxiety levels have gone down thanks to such yoga poses.

I am so happy to share with you a pose that I do in my adult yoga classes, as well as with my children yoga classes because it is so incredibly beneficial to everyone. So, if you ever experience stress in your life, you must put 5 minutes aside today and give this a try.

Legs Up The Wall

Yes, this is the easy name also known as Viparita Karani (Vip-par-ee-tah  car-AHN-ee). Viparita means turned around, reversed, inverted and Karani means doing, making, action.

Now that you know the technical name and meaning, you need to know what this pose can do for you.

How To Master “Legs Up The Wall”

*Sit down facing the wall. Feel free to place blankets on either side of your bottom for added support.

*Lay on your back and place your feet on the wall, stretching upwards.

*Find your comfy spot. This means scootching your bottom forward or backwards, closer or farther away from the wall. You can place a pillow under your back if you are experiencing any back pains.

*Make sure there is no strain or pressure on your hamstrings.

*Rest your arms by your side – palms up

*Gently breathe in through your nose and out through either your nose or mouth (which ever is more relaxing to you).

Just So You Know

This is an easy enough pose for pretty much all age levels and abilities. This pose should never hurt or put any strain on any muscles or cause pain or discomfort of any kind.

As with most inversions, legs up the wall should be done with caution, especially if you have a serious eye issue such as glaucoma.

If you experience a tingly feeling in your feet or legs, simply Legs Up The Wallbend your knees touching the soles of your feet together and slide your feet down the wall allowing your heels to rest close to your pelvis. This should alleviate the tingling sensation.

You can also give your legs a rest if you need to by bending slightly at the Legs Up The Wallknee.

Remember, it only takes 5 minutes a day to gain all of these amazing benefits. My kids and I like to lay on a bed with our legs up the wall together while we relax before it is time to fall asleep. They honestly look forward to it….as do I.

Give it a go….5 minutes a day for a solid week and see how you feel. Of course you can lay there much longer if you would like. I can’t wait to hear how wonderful you feel afterwards!!!

My Love For Coconut Oil

My Love For Coconut OilI discovered my love for coconut oil a few years ago when I was told that it could help with my digestive tract. It has been found that coconut oil puts less pressure on the digestive system and pancreas than other fats. Coconut oil is also known to be an anti-inflammatory oil.

After going to numerous doctors and trying countless medications I had had enough. I was all for trying something that was completely natural. I did lots of research and talked to lots of professionals (of all kinds) regarding natural remedies for health and figured, what do I have to loose?! After all, coconut oil is anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibacterial.

 Years Later

Fast forward to years later…I not only use organic, extra virgin, cold pressed, unrefined coconut oil for my “tummy troubles” (which has helped heal my digestive tract) but for my hair, teeth and part of my daily beauty routine as well.

Coconut Oil Daily

Here is how I use my coconut oil on a daily basis: First thing in the morning (before eating anything) I oil pull for 20 minutes. You want to do this on an empty stomach so you don’t feel nauseous. Oil pulling is wonderful for you, your teeth and your gums! I then have my coffee for the day with 1 tbsp of coconut oil in it. I make my kids eggs in the morning with coconut oil. As a matter of fact, I use coconut oil instead of butter to cook the majority of our meals. You can melt coconut oil in place of butter and pour on your popcorn for a healthier option.

Coconut Oil For Beauty

As far as using coconut oil in my beauty routine, I wash my My Love For Coconut Oilface in the evening with coconut oil. It is amazing at getting off pesky mascara (just be careful not to get it in your eyes). It can cause your eyesight to be a bit blurry if you are not careful. I mix coconut oil with sugar and it becomes my face and body exfoliator. My skin feels extremely smooth and soft afterwards. It is able to get flaky, dry skin off of my lips too! I also make my own whipped body butter and coconut oil is a main ingredient in that!

Coconut Oil Uses Continued

When my children complain of itchy skin, I rub a little bit of coconut oil on the dry patches to relieve their discomfort. When my hair feels extra dry, I use my coconut oil as a hair mask. FYI, it may take a few washes to get it all out so I put more of the oil on the ends of my hair then the roots to cut down on unnecessary greasiness.
So, not only does my digestive tract thank me for giving coconut oil a try but so does my teeth, hair and skin. I have no idea how I ever lived without coconut oil. It is a definite staple in our house from here on out!

Strategic Planning For Success

We all have this vision of how we want our succes to play out. Success to you may have a completely different meaning of what success means to me.  Some view success as how much money one makes or how far one may travel. To others, success is having lots of love in their life and good health. No matter what success means to you, one thing we can all do is learn strategic planning for success. This will ensure that your goals for success are met…and then some.

Set Goals

I think it’s fair to say that it is kind of hard to accomplish goals if you don’t sit down and actually make them. So get out paper and a pen and write down your goals. No matter how small they may be at first. It is important to start somewhere. You can always add on or change your goals as you go along. Get started with making 3 goals for yourself.

For example:

Where do I see myself 6 months from now?

Where do I see myself 1 year from now?

Where do I see myself 3 years from now?

(Feel free to set your own timeline, just be realistic. My advice is to not pick a time frame too far away from today just yet. Strategic planning for successThis will make it more obtainable to achieve.)

Okay, now that you “can see yourself” where you hope to be in the near future, lets figure out how you are planning on getting there. What steps are you planning on taking to get where you want to be.

List 5 steps I need to take to move closer to my goal.

List what is slowing me down or in my way from going after my goal and keeping me from moving forward.

List how I am going to get over these obstacles.

Trust me, when you write down exactly what your plans are, you are way more likely to accomplish them!

Plan Your Day The Night Before

Now lets take it a day at a time. At night, before you settle down for the evening, make a list of the most important tasks you must accomplish the next day. When you wake up in the morning you now will have direction of how to go about your day. Make sure to tackle something that will bring you a step closer to your goal.

An example: If better health is a goal, make it a point that every time you are about to say in your head “I feel like I am geeting weak” change your thought process to “I am strong and healthy”. Make it a goal to train your brain. Down the road, this will be second nature to you. It has been said that, your thoughts dictate your state of well being. Keep saying to yourself, “I am healthy.”

Another example: If your goal is to write a book, make it a point to put aside 1 hour every day and dedicate it to brainstorming or writing. Before you know it you have the ruff draft of a book. This will help you see it more realistically by taking smaller steps at a time.

First Things First

You know the things that you must do but don’t neccessarily want to do? Do that first! Get it out of the way. There, now you can move on with your day without that “weight” sitting on your shoulders.

Don’t get stuck in the social media rut. Save all “entertaining” things you do on your phone until you knock off at least 2 things on your daily to do list. Trust me, you will thank me for this advice. If you don’t find ways to procastinate, you will achieve your goals that much quicker.

Stay Focused

Stay organized. Less clutter, less stress!

Block out distractions.
