Sunburn Relief Remedies

Okay, so you didn’t quite succeed in the prevention part….lesson learned….right? Now you need to ease the pain. Any of these remedies will do the trick.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a natural anti-inflammatory, therefore it has the ability to ease any swelling of the skin. Pour 2 cups of oatmeal into your a cool bath tub, mix and soak the affected areas of your body. Pat our body dry when finished soaking.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda will calm and soothe sunburned skin. Feel free to either bathe in 1 cup of thoroughly mix baking soda in cool water or make a paste of baking soda and water and apply directly on sunburned skin using a cotton pad. Leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes and gently wash off. Do this as often as needed until you feel relief from the burn.

Black Tea

Natural sunburn relief remediesBlack tea can do amazing things for your skin. It can reduce inflammation and protect your skin from UV radiation. Black tea, due to it’s antioxidants, can restore the skin’s pH balance. Brew about 3 or 4 tea bags in hot water until the water is black. Let the water cool before applying to your skin with a wash cloth that has been soaking in the black tea water. Leave the wash cloth on the affected skin long enough for the the wash cloth to become dry. Do this as often as needed.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera also has anti-infammatory and soothing benefits for sunburned skin. Place Aloe Vera gel in the fridge for about 20 minutes to make it cool to the touch. Gently apply to burned skin and let it air dry. Apply this as often as needed.

Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is another wonderful go-to for sunburned skin because it has the ability to repair damaged skin and reduce inflammed and swollen skin due to too much sun. Simply soak a cotton pad in Witch Hazel and apply to sunburned skin as often as desired. Any swelling should go down in no time. Witch Hazel is also a great relief for itchy skin.

Natural sunburne relief remediesApple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar can help calm inflammation and itchiness caused by a sunburn. There are two ways you can use Apple Cider Vinegar to ease a sunburn. 1. Soak in lukewarm water mixed with 1 cup of Apple Cider Viegar for about 25-30 minutes. 2. Mix equal amounts of Apple Cider Vinegar with cool water and soak a wash cloth in mixture then gently place on sunburned areas. Repeat as needed. The Apple Cider Vinegar could hurt skin with open wounds, cuts or blisters so skip this remedy if you have any skin abrasions.

Chilled Cucumber

Cucumber can soothe sunburned skin just by simply laying slices of the cucumber straight from the fridge to your hot, inflamed skin. Don’t forget to flip them once the coolness wears off.

Cold Milk

I know this one sounds weird but it truly works as well as all of the rest. Mix milk with water and ice cubes. Soak a wash cloth in the liquid mixture and apply to sunburned skin for instant relief. The fat in the milk has an anti-inflammatory effect on inflamed, sunburned skin.

Good To Know

Keep any gel or light lotion in the fridge. This way, you will get the benefits of both healing and cooling effects on your sunburn. Also, it is best to keep already sunburned skin out of the sun!

Check your medicine to make sure it does not make you super sensitive to the sun. Often antibiotics can cause this unfortunate side effect.

Make sure to always protect your skin, even on cloudy days. The UV rays can be a tricky thing.

Which remedy is your go to for sunburn relief?
