My Love For Coconut Oil

My Love For Coconut OilI discovered my love for coconut oil a few years ago when I was told that it could help with my digestive tract. It has been found that coconut oil puts less pressure on the digestive system and pancreas than other fats. Coconut oil is also known to be an anti-inflammatory oil.

After going to numerous doctors and trying countless medications I had had enough. I was all for trying something that was completely natural. I did lots of research and talked to lots of professionals (of all kinds) regarding natural remedies for health and figured, what do I have to loose?! After all, coconut oil is anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibacterial.

 Years Later

Fast forward to years later…I not only use organic, extra virgin, cold pressed, unrefined coconut oil for my “tummy troubles” (which has helped heal my digestive tract) but for my hair, teeth and part of my daily beauty routine as well.

Coconut Oil Daily

Here is how I use my coconut oil on a daily basis: First thing in the morning (before eating anything) I oil pull for 20 minutes. You want to do this on an empty stomach so you don’t feel nauseous. Oil pulling is wonderful for you, your teeth and your gums! I then have my coffee for the day with 1 tbsp of coconut oil in it. I make my kids eggs in the morning with coconut oil. As a matter of fact, I use coconut oil instead of butter to cook the majority of our meals. You can melt coconut oil in place of butter and pour on your popcorn for a healthier option.

Coconut Oil For Beauty

As far as using coconut oil in my beauty routine, I wash my My Love For Coconut Oilface in the evening with coconut oil. It is amazing at getting off pesky mascara (just be careful not to get it in your eyes). It can cause your eyesight to be a bit blurry if you are not careful. I mix coconut oil with sugar and it becomes my face and body exfoliator. My skin feels extremely smooth and soft afterwards. It is able to get flaky, dry skin off of my lips too! I also make my own whipped body butter and coconut oil is a main ingredient in that!

Coconut Oil Uses Continued

When my children complain of itchy skin, I rub a little bit of coconut oil on the dry patches to relieve their discomfort. When my hair feels extra dry, I use my coconut oil as a hair mask. FYI, it may take a few washes to get it all out so I put more of the oil on the ends of my hair then the roots to cut down on unnecessary greasiness.
So, not only does my digestive tract thank me for giving coconut oil a try but so does my teeth, hair and skin. I have no idea how I ever lived without coconut oil. It is a definite staple in our house from here on out!

Tips For Healthy Looking Skin

Tips for healthy looking skinWe all want that picture perfect, super smooth, supple, healthy glowing, blemish-free skin. You know, the “airbrush” skin we all see in the magazines. Unfortunately our hormones or daily habits of touching our face, even the foods we eat are causing annoying issues with our skin. So I have compiled a list of the most advised tricks and tips to get and keep our skin looking healthy and flawless.

  1. Probably the most important and commonly waterknown…Drink Water! Make sure to have at least eight 8-ounce glasses (about 2 liters or half a gallon) of water a day. Every day! Your skin will look more hydrated and clear instead of dull and dry. Water will also flush out toxins trapped in your body.
  2. Eat Leafy Greens. Eat at least 1 cup of spinach, kale and/or romaine lettuce daily.
  3. Get More Sleep. Lack of ZZZs will lead to stress which could lead to acne.
  4. Vitamin E. When you apply vitamin E topically you are minimizing the damage from the sun’s harmful rays. Vitamin E will also help calm inflammation of the skin.
  5. Eat Less Sugar. Too much sugar is never a good thing. It can clog your pores and overactivate your oil glads.
  6. Use Coconut Oil. I love, love, love coconut oil for so coconut oilmany reasons. When I was a teen a friend asked me if I was stranded on an island what is the one product I could not live without. My answer then was sadly mascara. Now it would be coconut oil, hands down! You can apply coconut oil all over your face (be careful near eyes), arms and legs. There are just so many uses of coconut oil!
  7. Exercise. When you exercise you help increase oxygen to the skins cells that carries cellular wastes away.
  8. Exfoliate Your Skin. Removing the dead skin will not only make your skin feel smooth but it will look like you have a healthy glow to your skin. Visit THIS post for some wonderful DIY sugar scrub recipes.
  9. Eat Foods With Omega-3s. Foods such as mackerel, salmonsalmon, walnuts, chia seeds, tuna and egg yolks can help reduces skin inflammation like acne.
  10. Switch To A Satin Pillow Case. Sleeping on satin will keep your skin looking youthful.
  11. Wash Your Face Twice A Day. It is so important to get into the habit of washing your face every night before you go to bed. Then rinse your face again in the morning before you start your day.
  12. Keep Germs Off Your Cell Phone. Wipe the surface of your cell phone daily to keep all of those germs from your fingers away from your face.

I hope this list helps you achieve the skin you desire. If you have any tips please share them with the rest of us! Be happy, stay healthy!
